I found a treasure trove of photos from 2009 - the year when we were just starting to establish our new life here in New Zealand. What an amazing find! As I started to whisk these off to my Flickr account, I thought this was the perfect time to blog and share some of the more interesting ones.
I found this photo amusing because in the past couple of weeks, my wife has been making maki and she wondered how come I was no longer making this. I struggled to remember when the last time was, and now I know.
That same year, we embarked on a papier mache project - the result of this endeavour is proudly displayed on our walls. I am amazed though that's it's been 7 years since we did this! Time does fly.
This TV set was a hand-me-down. It's a pre-LCD set which we had to dispose of when New Zealand turned off analog TV a couple of years back.
This was my son's birthday party when he turned 4. He was still into Ben10 at this time. It's the first birthday we would spent outside of the Philippines, with friends we've met only a few months prior.
Our first Christmas party in our new home away from home! Christmastime is such a big event back in the Philippines that it was at this time when we felt so far away from our family and friends. But our new-found friends made us welcome and celebrated the season with us.
It was also in this month when I landed a job, so after about 3 months of sleepless nights applying for jobs, we managed to breathe a sigh of relief and had a Merry Christmas indeed.
I think this photo captures the relaxed atmosphere we had on February 2009. I was just about to start work, and we've just moved in to our rental property after about 5 months living in a bedsit as I job-hunted. Things have finally started to look up for us.
We were able to rent this property, also through friends. They're a blessing to us. The sofa pictured below has a sentimental value to us, and is still in the same place til now.
All these treasured photos are now on my Flickr account. It's been quite a journey so far, and I look forward to more, recorded in photos to share with family and friends in the future.
